NJ Attorney General Meeting With Muslim Leaders

After the New York Police Department was caught red-handed spying on Muslims across the North Eastern United States, the trust which was established between authorities and the Islamic peoples living in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and the surrounding area came to an end. The associated press released over 20 articles showcasing the devious behavior of NYPD.

Majority of the spying took place in New Jersey: mosques were being watched, as individuals came and left  the house of worship their license plates were captured and scanned through the system to find wrong doings; those who had minor infractions on their record were black mailed into spying on their own communities; Muslim associations in large colleges were surveilled.

Masjid Omar Bin Al-Khattab, located on Getty Avenue, was among the myriad of spying sights.

When the news broke a good number of politician denounced: Chris Christie, New Jersey governor, denounced the surveillance program calling it “disturbing”; Cory Booker, the Newark Mayor, also condemned the spying operation; they were among the few to see the wrong doings of New York Police Department and spoke up.

On the other hand, when the push came, Michael Bloomberg, the Mayor of New York City, said the spying was perfectly legal. jeffrey chiesa, the attorney general for New Jersey, confirmed by saying: “the NYPD broke no state laws in its surveillance of Muslims in New Jersey.” The attorney general and a few of so called Muslim leaders — it is speculated that they represent more themselves than followers of Islam — will meet in Newark, as part of a new committee to restore the broken trust between Muslims and the law enforcement agencies. The meeting is supposed to allow 10 Muslim leaders to share their concerns with leading officials: Edward Dickson, director of Homeland Security; Rick Fuentes, the man in charge of NJ State Police (people attending).

Muslims we have spoken to seem to agree that the show scheduled to take place today, Sept. 5, 2012, in Newark, NJ is a “circus,” and the individual involved are the, “clowns.” One young Muslim said: “Maybe the radicals and extremist were right — how could we have been this stupid to trust these people.”

Council on American-Islamic Relations or CAIR, the largest Islamic Organization in America, was not invited to the meeting.
