Shooting outside School 21 forces delayed dismissal

School 21 was on locked down earlier today, Wednesday, few minutes prior to dismissal when shots were fired outside the school building. Paterson Police arrived on the scene, and uncovered that the shooting did not injure any bystanders but a truck was struck.
It is speculated that the shooting was likely between drug dealers, and it had little to do with the school which is located on 10th Avenue, in Paterson’s East Side where such occurrences are common during non-school hours.
Staff members of the school were uncomfortable letting the students out during the dismissal time when the shooting incident took place, so they kept them more than 20 minutes after dismissal to ensure it was safe for them to walk home — and only after police had assured them it was safe.
