Paterson Police to rehire 21 officers

Robberies are up more than 10-percent; shootings have gone up by more than 20-percent since last year; homicides are up by 30-percent since 2011; crime in the city has exploded in recent years after the laying-off of more than 120 police officers in 2011.

Paterson Police has since rehired 37 officers with the State’s permission. This year, with the blessings of the State, the police department is set to rehire 21 more officers.

Elected officials and residents are all hoping that the new hiring reduces crime on the streets; the idea is more boots on the ground will result in less episodes of antisocial behaviors.
