A $29m contract has been awarded to Ernest Bock & Sons, a construction company, for the building of the Marshall Street Elementary School in Paterson, according to the New Jersey Schools Development Authority.

The school which is slated to be completed in 2016 will have “45 classrooms, a gymnasium, a cafetorium, special instructional classrooms for music, and art, a computer lab, technology room, science demonstration laboratory, and a community room.”

650 students will be housed at the elementary school whose grades will start from kindergarten and end with eighth grade. The 108,700 square foot school complex will have a bridge leading to an NJ Transit station located not far from the school.

Overcrowding has been a major issue in the city’s schools with about 30,000 pupils.

Marc Larkins, the chief executive officer of the agency says, “This award advances one of several projects that will move us ever closer to achieving our goal of first-rate schools in Paterson.”

Construction for the school will begin this fall.
