A local man was swimming in the Delaware River in the township of Deerpark, NY, where he drowned yesterday afternoon, according to the New York State Police.
Jamel Rounds, 21-year-old, a city resident, was swimming in the Delaware River near a private home on Sleepy Hollow Road in Deerpark, where at around 1:15 p.m. Saturday a strong current swept him under water and rolled him more than “one hundred yards down river.”
Rounds was not wearing any protective gears like a life-jacket. After authorities pulled Rounds out of the water, he was transported to Bon Secours Hospital, a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police do not suspect there was foul play involved.
