Three people were wounded early Saturday morning near Park Avenue after a suspect approached a group of people and began spraying bullets, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The three victims were standing outside, near intersection of Park Avenue and East 18 Street, where the gunman approached at around 12:45 a.m. on Saturday, releasing a flurry of bullets at the group. All three were wounded.

Residents from the area perceived the shooting, and contacted police. When officers arrived they did not find any victims: “On arrival, officers located an apparent crime scene, but no victims were located,” according to police.

The three injured transported themselves to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. “A short time later, three victims arrived at St. Joseph’s Medical Center by private vehicle,” according to police.

The suspect is “described as a black male wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt.”
