A suspect was fatally wounded by a police officer near Franklin Street during early Saturday morning.

The suspect, who had just completed a home invasion, at around 2:33 a.m. on Saturday, and made his way with $400 in cash, jewelry, watches, and an iPhone, was tracked using the internal mechanism of the stolen phone.

Officers followed the suspect via the tracker from Lafayette Avenue, through Rosa Parks Boulevard, and into a dead end on Franklin Street, where, at around 3:40 a.m., officers attempted to arrest the suspect; however, that attempt went horribly wrong when the suspect was wounded.

The suspect had in his possession a knife which he attempted to use to evade arrest. “The officer attempted to apprehend the actor, who was armed with a knife, and a struggle ensued,” according to authorities.

The suspect was fatally wounded, and rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at around 3:45 a.m. The name of the suspect has yet to be made public, authorities are investigating the shooting.
