A woman driving a vehicle with a New York license plate dropped off a wounded man at the St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center on Sunday evening and sped out of the area, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The female driver apparently dropped off the body of a 37-year-old Lodi man with multiple gunshot wounds to the body at the hospital and fled the area, at around 9:45 p.m. on Sunday. “The victim was dropped off by a white colored Jeep, which fled the hospital area after dropping the victim there,” read a statement issued by Patrick Murray, detective at the department.

The suspect attempted to flee the city by getting on Route 80; police alerted the New Jersey State Police, and the nearby towns: Woodland Park, Totowa, and Little Falls. Within minutes a white jeep was observed erratically driving on Route 80 Westbound.

The vehicle was found double parked on Squirrelwood Road at 10:00 p.m.; working with State Troopers and police from nearby towns the ramp was shut down as officers searched for the suspect. The vehicle was towed, and K9 unit was dispatched to sniff out the suspect. It is unclear whether the suspect was found.

A few minutes earlier in the night officers responded to alerts of shots fired in the area of 17th Avenue and East 27th Street; however no victim was found; it appears the victim was the Lodi man with “numerous gunshot wounds to the abdomen and upper torso,” according to police. The victim is in critical but stable condition.

The investigation is continuing at this time, and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Edgar Taylor or Detective Rolondo Polio of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
