paterson-police-2014

Two suspects out of a trio were arrested during the early morning hours of Sunday near the train tracks of East 7th Street and Wait Street.

The two suspects described as black males, wearing gray and black hoodies with masks on their faces, and armed with two handguns were chased by an officer towards the train tracks near Wait Street at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Minutes earlier the suspects had fired shots in the area of 7th Street. Police have yet to release information whether anybody was injured as a result. The shots were fired at 12:52 a.m.

An officer chased one of the suspects towards Wait Street where the suspect attempted to run over the train tracks and flee to the other side of the tracks, but the officer managed to cuff the suspect before he could make his escape. At the scene a gun was recovered that likely belonged to the suspect.

A second suspect had run towards River and Lyon Streets. Officers caught him and recovered a weapon from the second suspect. The third suspect was nowhere to be found.

It remains unclear whether the two suspects were involved in a robbery that took place earlier in the night near Warren Street at 10:58 p.m. on Saturday when a man was robbed at gunpoint as he was walking towards his home. The victim was shot in the hand, and managed to transport himself to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment.
