City pays out $6,010 for vehicle accidents and improper towing

Council members approved $6,010 to settle pending claims against the city for various vehicle related incidents, where city vehicles struck other vehicles or where the city improperly towed vehicles, during a special meeting on Tuesday.

Accident involving city vehicle

On July 27th, 2013, Carmen Espinal’s vehicle was damaged in a three car accident involving a city vehicle — for that incident Espinal has been issued $2,000.

On September 24th, 2013 a city vehicle struck a vehicle belonging to Efrain Quispe-Montero resulting in vehicle damage. Quispe-Montero filed a claim, to settle which, the city has approved $2,280.27.

A city vehicle struck a car belonging to Kelisen Brenley on November 21st, 2014, as a result the town has approved $1,250 to settle the claim.

Improper towing

On October 26th, 2013, Monica Taveras had her vehicle improperly towed from a city road, as a result of that incident, the city has agreed to settle for $182.37.

Andrea Floreus had her vehicle towed improperly from a city street on December 3rd, 2013. She filed a claim against the city and $127.27 was approved to settle the claim.

Vanessa Matos parked her vehicle on a city street from where it was towed on January 2nd, 2014. Matos is being reimbursed $170 by the city for improperly towing her car.

A total of $6,010 was approved on Tuesday to settle the claims.
