A juvenile and a man were arrested and charged with gun possession during a special violent crime suppression detail near North 3rd Street during the early morning hours of Saturday, according to the Paterson Police Department.

Getzmir Robinson, 22-year-old, city resident, was arrested at around 2:55 a.m. on Saturday. Robinson was hanging outside with a group on North 3rd and Welcome streets when police received an alert of gunfire in the area.

Offices seeing the group informed them to remain on the scene. “On arrival at the location, Detectives encountered a group of  males, one of whom immediately fled on foot after being advised to remain at the scene,” said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit.

Police chased Robinson and found him armed with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and in possession of illegal hollow-point bullets.

After cuffing Robinson police found a teenager at the intersection of the two streets. “A 16 year old male who was apprehended near the intersection for the initial “shots  fired” call was also found to be in possession of a loaded .22 Caliber handgun,” said Murray.

The 16-year-old, whose name was not made public, was transported to the Essex County Detention Center, said police. Robinson was taken to the city’s police lockup pending a court appearance.

Police arrested both suspects without an incident. “The recovered handguns will be submitted to the ballistics laboratory for further examination,” said Murray.
