An early morning shooting on Friday left a city man wounded in the torso, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 20-year-old, was hanging out at the intersection of 12th Avenue and East 23rd Street at around 4 a.m. on Friday when a gunman approached firing multiple shots at the group, police said.

After shots were fired the group along with the wounded man attempted to flee the area on the foot, police said. Police responded to the scene after receiving alerts of shots fired in the area.

Upon arrival officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower torso, said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit.

The victim was rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. The victim is in stable condition at the hospital, Murray said. Police are investigating the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Carlos Charon or Prosecutor’s Detective Michael Boone of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
