A city man was wounded on Park Avenue during the early morning hours of Friday, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 21-year-old, exited a restaurant at the intersection of Madison and Park avenues at around 4:30 a.m. on Friday, when a gunman approached demanding everything he had, police said.

Police said the victim had gone inside the restaurant to make a purchase, but as he was leaving a male gunman dressed in dark sweat suit approached him. “At that time, the male made a verbal demand for the victim’s property, and when the victim advised he had nothing, the male produced a handgun,” said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit. “As the victim attempted to flee on foot, the suspect fired at him, striking him once.”

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the arm, police said.

Police received two alerts of gunfire in the area and responded. One at the intersection of Park and Madison avenues and the other in the area of 17th Avenue and Pennington Street. The victim had moved from the area of the shooting to 17th Avenue, police said.

Responding officers located the victim at the second location and called in an ambulance. The victim was rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. He is in stable condition at the hospital, Murray said.

The investigation is continuing at this time, and anyone with information is asked to contact  Detectives Aramis Alba or Francisco Brito of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
