A city man was wounded during the evening hours of Sunday at the intersection of Governor and Carroll streets, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 33-year-old, was wounded in the groin at around 11 p.m. on Sunday, police said. Police said the victim was standing at the intersection of Governor and Carroll streets near Rosa Parks Boulevard when one or more suspects approached and fired.

Officers responded to the scene after receiving calls of gunfire in the area. On arrival officers did not find any victims until a call came from St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

“Information gathered by Detectives at this time suggest that the victim was standing on Governor Street just off the corner of Carroll Street, when an unknown person(s) approached him and fired at the victim several times, striking him once,” said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit.

The victim sought assistance from a nearby home in the area. He was transported to hospital for treatment in a private vehicle, Murray said.

Detectives are currently canvassing the area to recover any video footage that may be available for review, and the investigation is continuing at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Francisco Brito or Detective Aramis Alba of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
