The city council on Tuesday evening approved settlements for two automobile claim cases.

The first case involved an improper towing of a resident’s vehicle; the second case involved a Public Works Department vehicle that struck a parked vehicle on Broadway belonging to former councilman Kenneth McDaniel.

McDaniel’s vehicle was parked on Broadway on July 27th, 2014, when it was hit by a public works vehicle. The city’s third party insurance claims administrator Cannon Cochran Management Services of Neptune suggested a $500 to settle the claim.

In the improper towing claim, a vehicle belonging to a city resident Haneefah Barner was illegally towed on May 27th, 2014. Barner’s claim resulted in a $150 settlement.

Members of the governing body approved the settlements on Tuesday evening following closed-door discussions about the claims.
