An early morning fire at an Union Avenue home left two people dead. Police received call of a burning building at around 4:40 a.m. on Sunday. Fire engines responded to the scene but it was too late for the victims.

The victims, both residents of 523 Union Avenue, according to bystanders, died from the fire. Firefighters pulled out one body from the second floor apartment and another from the first floor.

The two-alarm fire ripped through the home spreading to a nearby building.

Firefighters reported “heavy smoke condition.”

Neighboring 525 Union Avenue was evacuated after side of the building was scorched by the fire.

Names of the deceased were not released. Authorities are investigating the fire.
