Two women were arrested and charged with drug possession by sheriff’s officers on Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of 17th Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

City resident Rosa Alexa Hayr, 19, and Amanda Lee, 23, of Ringwood, were apprehended by sheriff’s officers Atli Sela and Joseph Royce while on routine patrol of the area.

The officers conducted a motor vehicle stop of a 2001 Mercedes Benz at 17th Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard at around 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday. Authorities recovered more than a dozen bags of marijuana charging the two women with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute, and possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of Roberto Clemente School.

“The two suspects were in possession of 19 individually wrap baggies of marijuana which came to 17 grams with an approximate street value of $340,” Berdnik said.

Lee was out on bail for manslaughter charges. She was transferred to city police lockup.

Hayr had an outstanding warrant for a previous drug charge, Berdnik said. She was transported to Passaic County Jail.
