City settles car accident lawsuit involving police officer

The city council earlier in the week settled an accident lawsuit involving a city vehicle. Council members approved $1,500 to settle a lawsuit filed against the city by Dennis Thomas.
Thomas claimed his vehicle was struck by a city police vehicle operated by police officer Akram Adbellatif at the border of Paterson and Clifton on Fredrick Street near Valley Road.
Thomas alleged that the “carelessness” and “recklessness” of Adbellatif and other officers resulted in the collision that caused “serious” personal injuries to him.
The council approved the settlement during a special meeting Tuesday.
