A 25-year-old city man was wounded Tuesday afternoon as he sat inside a vehicle near Rosa Parks Boulevard and Pearl Street, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim was inside a minivan in the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Pearl Street at around 5:35 p.m. Monday when he was approached by one or more gunmen, police said.

“At this time, it appears that the victim was seated in the passenger side of a minivan when a suspect/suspects walked up and fired into the vehicle, striking the victim before fleeing the area,” Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said.

Police responded to the scene, but were unable to locate a victim. Murray said a vehicle was found at the scene that appeared to have been damaged by gunfire. Police received call of a gunshot victim having arrived in St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

The victim was transported to the hospital by private vehicle, police said. Murray said the victim was wounded in the upper back. The victim is in stable condition, Murray said.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Christopher Ravallese or Prosecutor’s Detective Michael Boone of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
