A city man with $44,645 in outstanding child support warrant was arrested Tuesday night on drug charges, according to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.

David Santiago, 47-year-old, was arrested by authorities at the intersection of Main and Grand streets on Tuesday by detectives Joseph Cammisa and Raphael Garcia, authorities said. Cammisa and Garcia were in the area on warrant patrol, Sheriff Richard Berdnik said.

The detectives observed Santiago discarding small objects from his right hand onto the sidewalk upon seeing a police interceptor. Authorities recovered four envelopes of suspected heroin stamped “GAME OVER” that were in separate bundles with rubber band holding them together, Berdnik said.

Santiago was placed under arrest.

Berdnik said Santiago had child support warrants totaling $44,645.62 that was issued and signed on September 24, 2014 by a New Jersey Superior Court judge.

Santiago is charged with heroin possession, possession with the intent to distribute, and possession with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of School No. 3.

Authorities placed Santiago in Passaic County Jail on the active child support warrants, Berdnik said.
