Education officials have announced an early dismissal for School 10 students due to heating issues. Students will be dismissed at 1:10 p.m. today, Friday, February 20, 2015 while staff members will be dismissed at 1:20 p.m.
The Mercer Street school, like John F. Kennedy High School, has suffered from frozen heating system coils, district officials said. The frigid outside temperature has resulted in inadequate amount of heat inside the building to keep classrooms warm.
School officials said a coil broke in a first floor classroom earlier in the week flooding the school’s media center. Officials blamed the cold temperature, differed maintenance, and the district’s aging infrastructure for heating systems related problems at various city schools.
The district has announced the early dismissal on its website.
