A city man was wounded in a shooting incident on Belmont Avenue during the early morning hours of Sunday, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 24-year-old, was in the area of Belmont Avenue and North 7th and 8th streets at around 6:10 a.m. on Sunday.

Police responded to the area after receiving calls of shots fired in the area, Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said.

As officers were attempted to locate a crime scene or a victim, they received a call from St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center that a gunshot victim had arrived at the hospital by private vehicle.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, police said. Murray said the victim is currently undergoing treatment and is in stable condition.

Police continue to investigate the incident. Any person with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Christopher Ravallese or Prosecutor’s Detective Michael Boone of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
