Suspect from 2014 shooting turns himself in to police

A 27-year-old city man wanted on attempted murder surrendered to authorities on Thursday.
The shooting suspect Quashawn Ward went to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday afternoon where he surrendered to authorities. Ward told personnel at the sheriff’s facility that he believed he was wanted by police.
The sheriff’s office notified the city’s police about Ward. Detectives Edgar Taylor and Rolondo Polio confirmed Ward was wanted and responded to the Sheriff’s Office. Ward was transported to city police headquarter for processing.
Police said Ward is being charged with attempted murder, weapons offense, and gun possession. Ward is suspected to have wounded a 24-year-old man at the intersection of 16th Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard on February 21, 2014 at around 12:08 a.m.
The victim was wounded in the chest, police said.
For a year Ward remained at large. Police made many unsuccessful attempts to locate him. On Tuesday detectives visited the 1st Ward residence of a relative of Ward, but he was not there.
“In pursuit of justice, cold cases are handled with the same tenacity,” Police Director Jerry Speziale said. “Cold cases are actively pursued daily.”
Ward is currently being detained by city police pending an initial court appearance.
