City police arrested a 15-year-old and a 20-year-old on 13th Avenue and East 33rd Street on Monday evening charging both with weapon and drug possession, said police director Jerry Speazile.

The vehicle’s operator, a 15-year-old city resident, was driving through 12th Avenue and East 22nd Street with fake license plates, said the director. Police attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop, but the suspect continued driving leading to a small chase through the Eastside.

Another suspect Michael Jaikaran, 20, city resident, was in the passenger seat of the car, the director said. Police arrested both suspects on 13th Avenue and East 33rd Street at about 11:50 p.m. on Monday.

Inside the vehicle police officer Robert Shirie found a loaded .25 caliber handgun and 118 bags of heroin, said Speazile.

The director said Jaikaran had a $500 outstanding warrant.

“An Alert police officers locating a suspicious vehicle ends with another weapon off of our streets,” said Speazile. “Paterson police officers work extremely hard and I only wish I could share all the stories with the residents.”
