One person dead in shooting near Wrigley’s Park


One person was killed in a shooting near Wrigley’s Park during the morning hours of Wednesday.

The victim, Dennis Gillespie, 43, of Warwick, NY, was shot and killed at around 9:47 a.m. at the intersection of Fulton and Mercer streets. Police responded to the scene and found Gillespie was dead inside the vehicle.

A second female victim, 31, of Goshen, NY, was wounded. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

The female and the male victims were inside an old model Honda Civic that was parked near the intersection.

The victims’s vehicle was struck by gunfire. Residents reported seeing two men fleeing the area on foot towards Carroll and Governor streets.

Not much is known about circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The Paterson Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the incident.
