City police arrested two men on weapon and drug charges on Sunday afternoon during a drug investigation on Montgomery Street, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Freddie B. Smith, 29, and Salim Rollins, 30, were arrested at about 12:25 p.m. on Sunday in the area of 88-92 Montgomery Street, during the investigation led by the city’s narcotics division.

Smith allegedly had 2,350 glassines of heroin in his possession while Rollins had two baggies of marijuana, said the director.

Rollins also had a loaded .32 caliber Smith and Wesson without a permit. He also had a prior felony conviction that barred him from having a handgun.

Rollins has been charged with weapons offenses.

Smith has been charged with various drug offenses including intent to distribute near a park and a school zone. $247 in drug proceeds was also confiscated from Smith, said the director.

“The increased police presence and cooperation of the community has led to the numerous drugs and weapons taken from our streets to make a safer city,” said Speziale. “I applaud the men and women of the department in their efforts.”
