A city man wanted on a death by auto charge stemming from a fatal April auto accident was apprehended Tuesday afternoon on Auburn Street, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

County warrant detectives arrested Shyli Slater, 31-year-old, today at around 2:45 p.m. at 44 Auburn Street. Warrant Detectives Chinere Mills, Mike Pascale, Ryan Dockray, Phill Hawkins, and Paul Sconciafurno arrested the suspect wanted in connection with an April 22 fatal car accident.

City police sergeant Ivette Otero and officer Joseph Thomas were part of the surveillance operation that led to Slater’s arrest, said police director Jerry Speziale. “I commend the work by the Paterson warrant division because they put in countless hours,” said the director.

Slater was handed over to city police for further investigation, Berdnik said. The suspect had an outstanding Passaic County Violation of SLAP warrant, authorities said. Mills coordinated the investigation and used surveillance that led to Slater’s arrest.

“This is a significant warrant arrest that was made possible by old fashion police work,” Berdnik said. “The Detectives involved in this arrest used information and surveillance techniques to facilitate this apprehension. I want to commend the Detectives involved in making these arrests.”
