City police arrested two alleged drug dealers after they abandoned a car on Broadway following vehicle pursuit and hopped on a jitney bus to make escape, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Edgar Ortiz, 39, of Paterson, and Joseph G. Holland, 47, of Little Falls, were arrested at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday at 631 Madison Avenue after the two suspects got off the dollar bus and fled on foot.

The city’s narcotics unit conducted the drug investigation that resulted in a car chase around the city’s east side with the Ortiz, the driver, and Holland, the passenger, dumping the vehicle on Broadway.

Ortiz and Holland then hopped on a dollar bus to Broadway and Madison Avenue. The two then fled police on foot until they were captured on Madison and Hamilton Avenues.

Ortiz allegedly had 19 baggies of crack-cocaine worth about $50 on the street and $1,904 in suspected drug proceeds. Police charged him with drug possession, intent to distribute in school and park zones, and resisting arrest, said the director.

Holland has been charged possession of 19 baggies of crack-cocaine, intent to distribute in school and park zones, and resisting arrest.

“The detectives relentless pursuit made the individuals’ escape no longer a remote possibility,” said Speziale.
