City police capture man who viciously attacked another with a baseball bat

City police have arrested a 29- year-old man on attempted murder for allegedly attacking another with a baseball bat late last month, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Angel Torres, 29, was arrested and charged with attempted murder on Tuesday afternoon, over a May 23rd, 2015 incident, where he repeatedly struck another man in the head with a baseball bat, according to police.

Torres, who viciously attacked the victim believing the latter was in a relationship with his girlfriend, was caught by police with assistance from the Regional Fugitive Task Force and the  U.S. Marshal Service following a citywide man hunt. He was arrested at about 3 p.m. by the city police warrant squad outside the Broadway bus terminal in downtown.

The baseball bat beating left the victim hospitalized for weeks and with permanent brain damage, according to police.

Torres was also charged with robbery upon a woman on June 3rd, 2015.  The victim in that incident sustained injuries, said police. Similarly, on June 4th, 2015 he assaulted another female victim.

Torres was charged with a third attack on a female victim in a June 21st, 2015, when he allegedly assaulted the victim and threatened to kill her. Torres was also wanted over a May 13th, 2015 for mischief and allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend in a domestic violence incident.

Case detective Todd Pearl who is assigned to the city’s warrant squad and the U.S. Marshal Service agent Bob Vogt played an instrumentals role in the arrest, said the director.

“This arrest can be attributed to the teamwork and outstanding partnership with the US Marshal Task Force,” said Speziale. “Our relationship with the US Marshal Service is one built on mutual respect, trust and understanding, and we relish our partnership and their assistance in the fight against violent crime.”
