A handgun and 100 envelopes of heroin was recovered from the hallway of an Auburn Street home early Tuesday morning, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Authorities recovered the weapon inside the hallway lobby of 90 Auburn Street at around 4 a.m., Berdnik said. Sheriff’s Officer Kelly Lincoln was flagged down by a concerned citizen who told authorities a handgun and drugs were in the home’s lobby.

Craig Goodson and Eric Fajardo of the Sheriff’s Office recovered a silver Raven handgun and 100 bags of suspected heroin valued at $500 on the streets, authorities said.

The area around Auburn Street is a known for drugs and violence. Berdnik said authorities have been focusing on the area that saw several street level arrests in the last few months.

“The fact that 100 bags of heroin and gun was in a public bathroom leads me to believe criminal and potentially violent activity was imminent,” Berdnik said. “Though no arrest were made, his matter is under investigation and it is a positive development that drugs and a gun are now off our streets.”
