20-year-old Paterson man wounded in East 16th Street shooting

A city man was wounded during the early morning hours of Friday as he was walking on East 16th Street, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 20-year-old, was walking on East 16th Street and 12th Avenue at around 1:15 a.m. on Friday, when he heard gunshots and realized he was struck.

Police said the victim was wounded in the upper torso. The wounded victim ran to his residence on 11th Avenue seeking assistance, Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said.

Murray said police were called in at that time. The victim was rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Police also received alerts of gunfire on Governor and East 16th streets at around the same time. Murray said a shooting scene was located in the area.

The investigation is continuing at this time, police said.
