27-year-old Paterson shooting suspect turns himself in to police

Jeffrey-Suarez

27-year-old city man Jeffrey Suarez, wanted in connection with a June shooting on Oak and Dover Streets, surrendered to police on Monday morning, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Suarez turned himself in to police at the Paterson Police Department headquarters at about 10 a.m., said the director. Police officers took him into custody without an incident.

The director said Suarez faces attempted murder and weapon charges in connection with the June 21st, 2015 shooting that left a 21-year-old man wounded in the lower back.

Police said the victim was wounded at about 10:15 p.m. on that Sunday. The city’s Ceasefire Unit has been searching for Suarez after he was identified as an actor in the incident.

City detectives visited a number of locations in search of Suarez after getting a large number of anonymous text tips about his whereabouts, said the director.

“Ceasefire detectives were relentless in their pursuit of locating Suarez,” said Speziale. “Clearly, his surrender places both the public, detectives and Suarez in a safer situation by avoiding a possible confrontation.”

Suarez is being detained in city police cell block pending an initial court appearance when his bail will be set, said the director.
