A city man was wounded during the late evening hours of Saturday when a gunman on bicycle fired shots on 12th Avenue, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 44-year-old, suffered a gunshot wound to the lower leg at around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, police said.

Police said the victim was on 12th Avenue between Rosa Parks Boulevard and East 18th Street when he was approached by the suspect clad in black and operating a bicycle, Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said.

“The male produced a handgun and fired at the victim, striking him in the lower leg,” Murray said.

The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. Murray said the victim is in stable condition at the hospital.

Police said the suspect fled on 12th Avenue towards East 18th Street after the shooting.
