A 24-year-old city man was arrested Friday evening on Park Avenue when sheriff’s officers on patrol of the area saw him discard a weapon into the front yard of a home, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Karee Liverman, 24-year-old, of East 40th Street, was observed throwing a silver object into the front yard of 334 Park Avenue before running towards East 24th, Berdnik said.

Sheriff’s officers Jose Rosado, Eric Fajardo, and Joseph Carmichael immediately recovered the object that turned out to be a loaded 357 caliber Magnum Colt Carry with six hollow-point bullets.

Fajardo and Carmichael began to chase Liverman. Passaic County K-9 Unit and the Paterson Police Department officers joined the manhunt for Liverman and surrounded the area.

Liverman was brought into custody in the backyard of 752 East 24th Street, Berdnik said. Authoirties said Liverman has been charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of defaced firearm, and possession of illegal hollow-point bullets that can penetrate body armor.

“I want to commend all PCSO and PPD Officers involved in making this apprehension,” Berdnik said. “I am glad that an individual with a loaded weapon and high impact body penetrating bullets was taken into custody before an act of violence occurred.”
