The citywide weekend crime suppression detail that targeted 20 high crime areas yielded 100 ordinance violations, two motor vehicle citations, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Speziale said the two-day detail that ran from Friday through Saturday was undertaken by the city police Narcotics, Ceasfire Units, and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office. The director said two weapon was recovered during the operation and one alleged drug dealer was arrested.

A Ruger .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun was recovered on Governor Street and a loaded Glock pistol was recovered from an alleged drug dealer in South Paterson.

The detail targeted high crime areas like 10th Avenue, 12th Avenue, North Main Street, Park Avenue, and Rosa Parks Boulevard.

“With the recent uptick in violence the men and women of the department have stepped up their efforts to ensure a safe environment for our residents,” said Speziale. He said the city did not register any fatal or non-fatal shooting during the two days.

“Paterson’s finest work tirelessly to provide a safe city for all and their efforts are commendable,” said the director.
