A city man was wounded in a shooting on Clinton Street Tuesday afternoon, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 21-year-old, was in the area of Clinton and North 5th streets when he was shot in the lower leg at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, police said.

“On arrival, officers located a crime scene, but a search of the area for a shooting victim proved negative,” Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said. “A short time later, a shooting victim arrived at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center by private vehicle.”

The victim told police he was in the area when he heard multiple shots fired and was struck while attempting to flee. Murray said the victim is in stable condition at the hospital.

The incident continued a violence streak that began with the shooting of a 28-year-old man on Monday morning on 11th Avenue.

On early Tuesday morning in another shooting on 12th Avenue a 21-year-old man was shot. The victim of the 12th and East 22nd Street shooting Marc Eason later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead Tuesday evening.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Detectives Edgar Taylor or Edgar Torres of the Ceasefire Unit at (973) 321-1342.
