A city school was one of six to win an NRG Creatively Green Family Arts Festival from the Young Audiences New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania and NRG Energy. School 6, one of 18 in the New Jersey eastern Pennsylvania area to apply, won the award on Wednesday.

Winning schools get to host a two-hour family arts festival for 300 people featuring Young Audiences artists. The artists will celebrate creativity and imagination in the festival which will include hands-on art making workshops among other things while promoting a message that highlights the individual and community responsibility to protect the environment.

The workshops will be led by Young Audiences’ professional teaching artists. The festival will also feature a community art-making project. Young Audiences New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania is an arts-in-education organization that provides performances and artists-in-residence programs to roughly 500,000 pre-k through 12 graders every year.

School 6’s event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 13th, 2015 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The Carroll Street school’s students have been invited to attend and participate in the festival. Students must be accompanied by a parent or adult.
