A city man was wounded in an early Friday morning shooting on Main Street, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 37-year-old, was shot in the upper torso and neck at around 3 a.m. on Friday in the area of Main Street between Bloomfield and Madison avenues, police said.

“At this time, it appears that the victim may have been involved in an altercation on Main Street and was shot while attempting to flee the area on foot,” Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said.

The victim was rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. Murray said the victim is in critical but stable condition at the hospital.

“Detectives are currently canvassing the area, and the investigation is continuing at this time,” Murray said.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Detective Sergeant Anthony Hyatt or Prosecutor’s Detective Michael Boone of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342. Information can be sent anonymously through PatersonPD.com.
