A city teenager was wounded early Friday morning when he responded to someone trying to break into his 12th Avenue home, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 17-year-old, was shot in the upper arm inside his home at around 2:50 a.m. on Friday, police said.

“At this time it appears the victim was inside the residence when he heard what he believed to be someone tampering with a window in another room,” Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said. “The victim went to another room to investigate and encountered someone attempting to enter the residence through the window. The person attempting to enter the residence fired at the occupant, striking him in the upper arm.”

Police responded to the scene after receiving alerts of gunfire at 292 12th Avenue.  The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. Murray said the victim is in stable condition at the hospital.
