The Culinary School at Eva’s Village received a $25,000 grant from the TD Charitable Foundation to further its job training and placement program.

Funds received will go towards training, preparing, and placing community members in food services industry. Eva’s Village, the largest anti-poverty organization in New Jersey, equips adults with fundamental culinary skills through a five-month course to obtain entry-level jobs as professional food preparers through its culinary school.

Launched in 2013, the culinary school, a tuition-assisted private vocational school, has graduated its fifth class in September 2015.

The nonprofit’s famous Community Kitchen at Eva’s Village has been serving hot meals to the needy since 1982. From 2007-2014 it registered a 26.7-percent increase in the number of hot meals it serves.

Eva’s Village serves 300-400 people for lunch every day.

“We expanded our kitchen to accommodate the overwhelming numbers of people coming for a hot meal each day,” Marie Reger, Executive Director at Eva’s Village, stated. “We are in need of funding to provide the meals, as well as volunteer teams to serve them, and TD Charitable Foundation has partnered with us over the years to help us answer those needs.”
