The city’s annual audit of its finances found the defunct Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA) continued to make “payment of bills” long after the government agency was dissolved through municipal council action.

“Activities such as the payment of bills continued subsequent to that date,” read the corrective action plan the city prepared and will send the state after council approval tonight. Government officials also asked the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office to look into the matter, according to the corrective action plan.

The city is conducting a close-out audit of the authority. The council awarded a contract to Donohue, Gironda, Doria, and Tomkins on November 4th, 2015 to conduct an audit of the authority.

The authority was dissolved on October 28th, 2014, according to city records.
