15 charged in Paterson’s year end crime sweep

City police arrested 15 people, recovered two firearms, confiscated 26 bags of marijuana, and seized $421 in cash during a nine-day year end crime sweep, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Charged were Victor J. Pimentel also known as “Javier,” 34, of Florida Avenue; Raheem J. Lattimore, 31, of Straight Street; Enrique Gonzalez, 36 of Bloomfield; Randy A. Then also known as “Roger,” 21, of 10th Avenue; Louis J. Carlson, 32, of Butler; Rashon J. Alexander, 32, of Haledon; Tania L. Gray, 24, of East 30th Street; Brian Onfroy, 23, of 12th Avenue; Michael L. Harris, 51, of Main Street; Ibrahim Mahmood, 45, of Main Street; Ajay Sarran, 18, of Arlington Avenue; James McNamara, 20, of Haledon; Jahziar White, 34, of Temple Street; Sam Grundy known on the streets as “Filthy Rich,” 25, of Governor Street; Tyshon Lattimore also known as “High Roller,” 27, of Prospect Park.

Pimentel was charged at 263 Main Street on Dec. 22, 2015 with violation of the anti-piracy act for having pirated music, according to police. $151 was seized as proceeds of pirated music sales.

Lattimore was arrested on Haledon Avenue and North 5th Street the same day in possession of 14 baggies of marijuana, according to police.

Gonzalez and Then were arrested on Park Avenue and East 18th Street on Dec. 28, 2015. Gonzalez had two baggies of marijuana, according to police.

Then had 5 baggies of marijuana.

Carlson was charged the burglary, loitering to commit a drug offense, and resisting arrest, according to police. Alexander was charged with burglary and destruction of evidence, according to police.

Gray, Onfroy, and Harris were each charged with having a baggie of crack-cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and having in possession a semi-automatic FN .380 caliber pistol, according to police.

On Dec. 30, 2015, Mahmood was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing a governmental function at 1029 Main Street, according to police.

The same day police arrested Sarran and McNamara at Ramsey Street and Caldwell Avenue for having five baggies of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

$103 was taken from Sarran; $167 was taken from McNamara, according to police.

White was caught on a $750 outstanding warrant on Godwin Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard on Dec. 31, 2015, according to police.

Grundy and Lattimore were nabbed at 103 North Main Street the same day. Both were charged with possession of a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 Rifle, resisting arrest, and having in possession stolen property. Both were also charged with “certain person not to have a firearm,” indicating past criminal record.

Speziale said tireless effort on the part of police officers removed dangerous weapons of the street and reduced the supply of drugs on city streets.

The crime sweep was conducted from Dec. 22nd through December 31st, 2015, according to police.

“In 2016, been kicking off the Mayor’s safe city initiative, our efforts will intensify and those responsible more serious consequences with state and federal prosecution being utilized,” said Speziale.
