A Bloomfield man is in critical condition after he was shot multiple times on Tuesday afternoon on 19th Avenue and East 33rd Street, according to police.

The victim, 32-year-old, was found lying in the roadway with gunshot wounds to upper body at about 1:40 p.m., according to police.

Police said it appears the victim had just got out of his vehicle near the intersection when two male suspects approached him. One of the suspects produced a handgun and fired multiple shots at the Bloomfield man, according to police.

The victim was struck “numerous times in the upper body,” according to police. He was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center and remains in critical condition, according to police.

Police director Jerry Speziale said the victim was targeted by the suspects. “This is an isolated incident, and the individual was targeted and not random,” he said.

Police continue to investigate yesterday’s shooting. “We will tirelessly pursue all investigative leads as this investigation continues,” said Speziale.
