A 27-year-old Haskell man bailed out of a moving vehicle that he stole from the Passaic County Community College to escape sheriff’s officers on Auburn Street late Tuesday night, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Kyle Tucker, 27, of Haskell could not get far. Officer Tolerico chased him down on foot and arrested him on Fair Street.

Officer Chowdury brought the rolling Honda Pilot to stop after Tucker exited while it was in motion, authorities said. The vehicle did not strike anything, the sheriff said.

The two officers were on routine patrol of the area when they observed the vehicle and began following it.

Tucker has been charged with third-degree theft, fourth-degree resisting arrest by flight, authorities said. He was given a date to appear in Paterson municipal court and released, authorities said.
