Two city teenagers arrested for attacking an elderly man as he stood to cross the street pleaded not guilty to charges, authorities said on Wednesday afternoon.
Kristian Gonzalez, 18, who is observed sucker punching the victim in the video that went viral creating uproar on social media pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated assault and endangering an injured victim on Wednesday morning before New Jersey Superior Court Judge Daniel J. Yablonsky.
Gonzalez’s case was heard at the family court because he was 17-year-old at the time of the attack. He and a 16-year-old allegedly attacked the unsuspecting victim as he attempted to cross Rosa Parks Boulevard from Van Houten Street on December 7, 2015.
The 16-year-old, who recorded the attack while allegedly encouraging Gonzalez, also pleaded not guilty to the same charges on Monday before Yablonsky.
Authorities said both teens continue to be detained. Both teenagers are scheduled to appear in family court on February 25, 2016 before Judge Greta Gooden-Brown.
