A city man was wounded early Sunday morning on 21st Avenue during a heated argument between two groups outside of El Mexicano Restaurant, according to the Paterson Police Department.

Police said the victim, 24-year-old, was shot multiple times in the torso on 21st Avenue near East 24th Street at around 2:45 a.m.

“At this time, it appears that there was an argument among a group of males outside of the El Mexicano Restaurant/Bar on 21st Avenue,” Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said. “The argument at some point turned physical, and during that altercation, a male produced a firearm, and multiple shots were fired at that time.”

Police said the wounded victim remained at the scene and was transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center where he is in stable condition.

Authorities continue to investigate the shooting.
