The Historic Preservation Commission of Paterson is hosting a 19th century baseball game in Westside Park on Saturday, April 23, 2016.

The New York Gothams and the Brooklyn Atlantics will take to the open field next to the historic Van Houten House from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Both teams will play by 19th century rules of baseball. All fielders will play barehanded without gloves as was done 125 years ago.

First pitch is at 11:00 a.m.

Second pitch at 1:30 p.m.

Fans are encouraged to bring their picnic lunch and chairs or blankets to sit on because the park does not have bleachers for the game.

The Friends of Hinchcliffe Stadium will share the stadium’s history while explaining the evolution of baseball in Paterson.

The city will also offer a tour of Westside Park throughout the event.

Inside John F. Kennedy High School the New Jersey Community Development Corporation (NJCDC) will collect public input to create a master plan to revitalize Westside Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will be ample parking at the free event.
