The city is entering into an agreement with the downtown motor vehicle office to provide a full-time police officer at the location in return for $287,996, according to an agreement before the municipal council.

A second agreement before the council looks to provide one police officer to the emergency room at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, according to the agreement.

The agreement with St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center that is before the council does not contain a dollar amount the city will receive as a result of the pact.

“The salaries are going to be reimbursed,” said police director Jerry Speziale on Tuesday speaking about the second agreement.

The officer at the downtown Motor Vehicle Commission office – 125 Broadway — will be stationed at the site during business hours, said the director.

“That’s what we want to see going forward that our shared services arrangements are financially beneficial to the city,” said council president William McKoy.

The council will vote on both agreements at its regular meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
