Paterson teen injured playing softball in city field gets $75,000 settlement

The city’s governing body approved $75,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by the family of a John F. Kennedy High School basketball players who injured herself while playing softball at a city-owned field, according to city records.
Tajae Stevenson was playing in Commons Field on May 6th, 2013 as part of a recreational girls’ softball team. The 14-year-old at the time hit the ball, rounded the bases, and slid to the home plate at which point she allegedly sustained a physical injury.
Stevenson alleged she sustained the injury because the home plate was “raised to an unreasonable level,” according to records. She allegedly suffered a displaced fracture to the left ankle, according to records.
Council members approved $75,000 to settle Stevenson’s lawsuit during a special meeting on Tuesday evening.
Stevenson plays for the John F. Kennedy High School girls basketball team.
