15 charged in Paterson’s weekly drug sweep, police

15 people were arrested on drug charges during the city’s weekly narcotics sweep, according to police.

Police seized 200 glassines bags of heroin, 35 baggies of crack-cocaine, 12 baggies of marijuana, 7 knotted bags of MDMA, and $367 in cash drug the sweep which ran from April 26th to May 2nd, 2016, said police director Jerry Speziale.

City residents charged were James W. Brown, 52, of Broadway; Thomas A. Chichele, 58, of Ward Street; Thomas J. Nicholas, 24, of Marion Street; LisaMarie Pinero, 27, of Danforth Avenue; Antwon Dewitt, 33, of Heritage Place; Jason A. Wright, 24, of East 26th Street; Tyzere Gainey, 19, of North 5th Street; Moses T. Leary, 41, of East 19th Street; James E. Cross, 43, of North 3rd Street; Ginarys P. DeCastro, 22, of East 16th Street; Xavier A. Monroe, 25, of 11th Avenue; Irving J. Plummer Jr., 25, of Matlock Street; and Joshua M. Gary, 26, of East 19th Street.

Others charged were Maggie Kelly, 32, of Clifton and Janet S. Srigiri, 25, of Elmwood Park.

Brown, Kelly, Chichele, Nicholas, Pinero, and Dewitt were charged on various drug offenses at 156 Slater Street on April 26th, 2016, according to police.

Brown and Kelly were charged with loitering to commit a drug offense while Chichele and Nicholas were charged with having 4 glassines of heroin, said the director.

Pinero and Dewitt allegedly sold the four bags to Chichele and Nicholas. Pinero and Dewitt were charged with possession and distribution of drugs, according to police.

Wright was arrested at 568 East 26th Street with 142 glassines of heroin and 1 knotted bag of crack-cocaine on April 28th, 2016, according to police.

Wright also had drug paraphernalia and $150 in suspected drug money, said police.

On the same day, police caught Gainey and Leary.

Gainey was caught with 50 glassines of heroin at 296 Chatham Avenue. He also resisted arrest, according to police.

Police nabbed Leary with 34 baggies of crack-cocaine at 211 Hamilton Avenue. He also had 4 glassines of heroin.

$227 in suspected drug money was seized from Leary, said police.

On April 29th, 2016, police caught Cross during a major drug bust at 116 North 3rd Street that was reported earlier in the week. Cross had 1 baggie of marijuana, according to police.

Cross resisted arrest by running from officers, said the director.

Srigiri, DeCastro and Monroe were charged with loitering to commit a drug offense at 317 East 19th Street on May 2nd, 2016.

Plummer was charged at the same location with 2 baggies of marijuana that he allegedly bought from Gary.

Gary was charged with having 11 baggies of marijuana and 7 knotted bags of MDMA pills. He was also charged with having in possession paraphernalia.

“We will continue to keep the pressure on all levels of illegal drugs in our city and continue to pursue those responsible,” said Speziale.
